Course Description

The Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS®) course is an internationally recognised training programme designed to equip healthcare professionals with a structured, systematic approach to the early management of trauma patients.

Delivered over two intensive days, the course combines expert-led lectures, practical skill stations, and immersive simulated scenarios to develop confidence and competence in assessing and treating critically injured patients. 

Attendees will benefit from hands-on experience, evidence-based teaching, and the opportunity to refine decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.

Course format

ATLS is a highly interactive course, taught using online learning, simulated patient scenarios, skills demonstrations, group discussions and tutorials.  This multi-format course is made up of two parts:

Part 1 - E-Learning

This component takes between 20-30 hours to complete.  Participants must complete the pre-course e-learning by 7am the day before the face-to-face course.  Participants who have not completed the online course by this deadline will not be eligible to participate in the face-to-face course.  Participants' progress is recorded.  You will be reminded about the completion of the online course via automated notifications.  These notifications will start 2 weeks before the course.

Part 2 Two face-to face days

Interactive teaching throughout the two days using faculty demonstrations, simulated patient scenarios, unfolding scenario skills stations, interactive discussions and group discussions.

Participants will complete a summative MCQ test.

Participants will demonstrate consolidation of their knowledge and skills while performing initial assessment and management of the trauma patient in a simulated environment.

Who can attend:

This course is suitable for FY2 grades or above (or equivalent trust grades), including those working in emergency medicine, surgery, anesthesia, and acute care specialties. Participants must hold a current medical qualification and be actively involved in the management of trauma patients as part of their clinical role.

£800 per candidate

Terms & Conditions

  • Full payment of £800 is required at the time of booking to secure a place on the course. 
  • Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Cancellations made more than 8 weeks prior to the course start date may be eligible for a partial refund, subject to an administrative fee.
  • Cancellations within 8 weeks of the course are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the course organisers.
  • Cancellation requests must be made in writing to ew4@greatermanchester.ac.uk and must be received within the required notice period.  If you do not attend a course, and have not previously informed us, the full course fee remains payable.
  • Substitutions may be permitted if requested in writing and approved by the course administration team.
  • Delegates are required to complete all pre-course materials and assessments prior to attendance; failure to do so may result in refusal of entry without refund.
  • Attendance on both days is required for certification. Participants who miss more than 10 minutes of scenarios across either day will not be allowed to continue on the course.
  • The University reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the course; in such cases, a full refund or transfer to a future course will be offered.
  • Delegates are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements.
